L1
- Essential recce items should include a camera, tape measure and notepad. On initial recces, one sees many locations. Sometimes there isn't enough time to get all the required details of the preferred location making a repeat visit necessary.

- All pictures in a location need copyright clearance for television use so it's always worthwhile having some spare 'hired' ones for the shoot.

- The owners 'pride and joy'. Often they don't appreciate the sheer quantity of crew and equipment required for a commercials location unit. Make a note of any damage prior to the shoot for future reference.

- Try to take photos without any people in as the photos may be useful to superimpose any supplied set or props for pre-production, unlike this shot for 'Knorr Chicken Tonight'.

- Again a recce photo for 'Knorr'. This kitchen needed to house a crew of nearly fifty people including an anamatronic panda for a three day shoot. Every reverse shot required the whole unit and kit to move to the other side of the room. This adds time and costs consequently more.

- The kitchen units on this 'Specsavers' commercial required a colour change. This has to be done professionally in case the owner likes the colour when we've finished filming, as she did.

- Just an hour spent sorting out the art department truck enables one to do a three week shoot in Morocco with much more organisation. Otherwise considerable time is spent searching for requested props brought from the UK.

- Take photos of all the 'existing' house dressing to enable a straightforward wrap. These can be printed prior to shooting and given to anyone willing to help. The wrap is often late at night when everyone is tired so we need as much help as possible. It's also quite difficult to remember how things looked initially.

- Here a promotion is being recced in an existing set for 'Casualty'. The same rules apply for taking as many photos as possible for later reference.
